Welcome to Karen's Wool Garden, traditional hand-hooked rugs, and rugs by commision. Owner, Karen Schellinger has more than ten years experience in hooking, and is an Accredited McGown Teacher. She has published several dye books, and been featured in publications, including Rug Hooking Magazine.

Why I hook-

Wanting beautiful hand hooked rugs on my floors I began my hooking journey with Master Teacher Marion Ham in 1996.  In 1997 a friend said, "we are going to learn to teach".  I began taking classes from the best of teachers to learn how to design, color plan, hook, and finish a rug.  By 1998 I was teaching ten women in weekly classes at the local quilt shop in South Carloina.  Sponsored by Jane King, I was certified in McGown Teaching in one year.  Later, in North Carolina, Patsy Becker blew me away with dye. I made a color wheel using three colors and a paper towel, and was hooked on the dye process using Pro Chemical Dye.  I took every color and dye class available after that and Level 1 and 2 with Marianne Linclon.

After many rugs and lessons, I have found a love and passion for really teaching students to dye their wool, and local gals to hook and dye.  I want students to have the confidence to design, color plan, hook and finish a rug and find their own voice in their work. Thanks for stopping by!
